I think of a martyr in the sense of someone who bears an adversity well, whether it's death or simply a "slight." I don't think of myself as a successful martyr. Perhaps I should look at Stephen more carefully. And Paul! There I am. watching the action. HOpe I can mimic him in his more gracious life when he spoke so the poeple. This was not my favorite passage, but seemed to show me some of my warts.
I agree with Bev - this is not an easy passage. It is hard to think that we may be called to die for our faith - and with joy. Yet, deep down, I do know that there are things worth dying for and I pray I am ready to step up willingly should that time come.
