Tuesday, February 16, 2010 Pray with Simplicity

Text: Matthew 6:5-13 Reading 205

I am glad to consider again in a new way the Lord's Prayer. Especially to hear it directly from Jesus!

  1. One of the study Bibles I read presented this thought (in my words): God's forgiveness is like a force field - so when we are there we are in on both His forgiveness and our forgiving.

I need to think about that, but I have been bothered by this part of the prayer because I know I do not perfectly forgive yet I want to be fully forgiven.

  2. This reading gives me a whole lot of comfort after yesterday's reading. Praying is always a little intimidating, especially oral prayers, because the ones we usually hear are from people with lots of experience praying inpublic and they always seem to say such good things. So the example seems to be set by them. Now Jesus, himself, says it isn't the example we should follow. Whew!

  3. Ha! FOCUS ON GOD, NOT ON MYSELF. That is the phrase that helps today. I've trouble, especially in church, keeping my mind on what God is saying. What do "I" need, what can "I" do for others, what does the future hold for "me." I have been looking at Pastor Nancy, and thinking that she is "there, simply and honestly" during services and wondering how I could find her devotion to the Lord. It seems she "senses his grace" as I have needed to do. He's there. I need to focus differently.
