Tuesday February 23, 2010 The Softened Heart

Text: Matthew 19:3-9 Reading 212

Moving from hardheartedness to softheartedness - who is pleading "give me a chance"?

  1. Here is what happened after I posted this last night: B called to say our family feels they need help getting Mu to school next week because of a job assignment will make the car unavailable for that. Do I need to work on softening my heart about this? Wow! What timing! What do you all think? Do they need to solve this themselves or is this what we are connected to them for?

  2. I haven't read the lesson yet and I'm leaving in a few minutes for a day at King of Prussia with Melissa. I wanted to comment on Arlene's dilemma, though. My opinion isn't about whether we soften our hearts, it's about what is in their best interests long-term. Without more information about the situation, it is impossible to know whether a soft heart is needed or tough love!

I'll comment on the reading, probably not until this evening after Mary Circle!

  3. Rosalyn has a good guideline. Also try putting yourself in their position - what would be the best solution for this problem? I am working on a slightly similar problem and I am asking myself the same questions. See you tonight!

  4. In my mind it's not a question of hardheartedness, but a question of forgiveness. If forgiveness can be a regular part of my life, it's impossible to be hardhearted. 55 years ago Wag and I had an "incident" driving straight through from Colorado. Even now, when we have a difference of sorts, I still want to bring up the indident. Am I an elephant carrying all that baggage? Ridiculous!

  5. My other note was written before I read Arlene's comment, but I sympathize greatly. We are concerned about our wayward grandson. Always asking for money. I wish I knew the answer. The experts bandy about the term, "enabling." I dislike the term. We try to work from the love that Christ has given us but the answers are not always clear. Mu's school is important, I assume, but important enough to sacrifice a bit for the better good? And what is the better good. Around and around we go.
